Couse Description: The SHA NRP course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize and care for neonatal patients who are experiencing life-threatening emergencies where the healthcare providers need to act quickly and smoothly. The course emphasizes providing high-quality newborn care by integrating cognitive and psychomotor skills with critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
Course Objectives 
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate resuscitation skills, including providing initial steps, positive pressure ventilation, corrective steps, chest compression, umbilical cord venous catheterization, drug and volume expander administration.
2. Apply high performance team elements while newborn resuscitation.
3. Apply a systematic approach in evaluation and management of neonatal resuscitation.
4. Effectively evaluate, recognize and manage for a newborn patient experiencing respiratory arrest/failure or cardiac arrest.
 
Target audience & precourse requirements:

Couse Description: The Saudi Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Saudi PALS) Provider Course is for healthcare intended professionals who work with severely sick children who are experiencing respiratory and/or cardiovascular problems, as well as cardiopulmonary arrest. The PHTLS Provider course is designed to be an intensive 16-hour course for emergency medical responders, EMTs, Paramedics, nurses, physician assistants and physicians. This course is offered at Basic, Advanced or Combined levels, and Military Provider courses are also available. PHTLS training is a continuing education program authored and administered by the PHTLS division of the National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) in conjunction with the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.
Comprehensive, evidenced-based coverage incorporates the latest research across all aspects of prehospital trauma in one convenient resource.  The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:
  • Physiology of life and death
  • Scene assessment
  • Patient assessment
  • Airway
  • Breathing, ventilation and oxygenation
  • Circulation, hemorrhage and shock
  • Patients with disabilities
  • Patient simulations
 
Course Objectives:
Participants will understand the physiology and kinematics of trauma, and improve their rapid assessment, diagnostic and intervention skills when handling adult and pediatric multi-system trauma patients. Participants will apply the principles of PHTLS in the scenario-based skill stations. Moulaged patient models are used to simulate the various trauma situations and guide the participant.
